Navigating the death of a loved one and/or preparing for your own end of life can feel overwhelming and bring up many different emotions. We have a variety of offerings and services that you may choose from and can also work with you to put together packages to meet your specific needs.
We honor each individual's experience and journey with this process and are here to support you along the way.
Whether it's documenting someone's preferences around medical treatment and body disposition or putting together a creative project to share your legacy with loved ones after you are gone, we can help with a wide range of details in end of life planning.
We at Floripondio create a sensitive and supportive space to work on:
Advanced Directives
These give people an opportunity to make clear their choices around resuscitation, medical treatment options, organ donation, etc. One can clearly state their non-negotiable name and pronouns, clarify who their chosen care team is, and note details such as how they wish to be dressed after death.
We are also available to talk with family (chosen or blood) as well as physicians to ensure all one’s end of life medical wishes have been clearly defined and documented.
Legacy Projects
Legacy projects are creative endeavors that allow people to leave something meaningful after they have passed.
We can help with the development and creation of a project that will tell the story of one’s life and may include details about important events or relationships, wisdoms, or accomplishments.
With a legacy project each person gets to decide how they want to be remembered and what they want to share.
End of Life Conversations
We can hold space for a platica (heart-to-heart conversation) with a dying person and/or members of their family and community. We can guide and support these important conversations that can help surface anything that wants to be completed, let go of, or accepted in these times of transition.
We also provide referrals to therapy and ongoing grief support as needed.
Sitting vigil is being with a dying person.
It can include reading, singing, and offering gentle touch. We provide relief for loved ones who are sitting vigil or join in the process. We can also help you with ceremony to honor someone immediately after their death.
Sitting vigil
We believe being with a dying person is a sacred service.
It is the simple yet profound act of being present, of offering a grounding, warm, and compassionate presence. It is about bearing witness and holding gratitude for life and death.
Sitting vigil can include offering affirmations or prayers, reading, music, working with scents, and gentle touch. We can provide relief for families and loved ones who are sitting vigil or join you in the process.
House Limpias
A limpia serves to clear the energetic space after a person has died.
These ceremonies can include the loved ones of the deceased with a platica, or heart-to-heart talk, and setting intentions. Utilizing traditional technologies such as herbal smoke, agua florida, salt, and song, we work alongside you to create a clear and tranquil environment.
These limpias can also be done in businesses or outdoor locations.
Funeral Planning
We can provide guidance in honoring a person immediately after their death and help with taking care of them.
We can support in planning a funeral, choosing a funeral home, and preparing to speak to a funeral director.
We also provide education on current body disposition options and help with other details.
We believe that grief has no timeline. We honor that grief can be complicated and do not make any assumptions about one’s experience. We trust that feeling pain is how we work through it.
We can provide spiritual support and guidance before, during, and after losing a loved one.
Perinatal Bereavement
We recognize that any form of reproductive loss can be deeply transformational and is deserving of care and ceremony.
We define perinatal loss as abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death. We provide information, trauma informed support, and rituals for self care.
We can also help you navigate stays in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, plan memorials, share options for burials, and more.
